I've the quartet/quintet collection from Philips complete Mozart series for a number of years. I decided to investigate this Brilliant Classics box after reading positive reviews and considering the excellent price Brilliant offers (about $33 cheaper than the Philips set).For those who might be unfamiliar with Brilliant Classics, it is a discount label from Europe that frequently purchases the rights to music recorded by other, more well known record labels. Their box sets typically contain CDs in cardboard sleeves which are house in sturdy boxes that take a fraction of the shelf space needed for traditional CD jewel cases.The performances here were recorded by the Sonare Quartet (1989 recordings orginally from Claves Records, Switzerland), the Franz Schubert Quartet of vienna (1994 recordings orginally on Nimbus), and the Orlando Quartet (1989 recordings orginaly on BIS). In all cases, the playing is crisp and the recording quality is excellent.Highly recommend for the value, and more importantly, for the performances.
